Trailworkers

The new entry to the Braille Trail is starting to firm up, and the bottom of Ridge has seasoned into a challenging but doable climb to the top of Saw Pit. If you are enjoying either of these new additions to the Soquel Demonstration State Forest, shoot me reply and let me know which of the next two Sundays you would like to come lend a hand while we continue maintaining and improving our local trails.

On Sunday, January 30 we will again be in the Demo, working on Tractor Trail and the adjacent parts of Ridge. The water bars are filled with leaves and silt, and a few trails have come down in the last set of storms. I expect more of the same throughout the week.

On Sunday, February 6, we head out to Stevens Creek County Park and get working on the Table Mountain Trail. We will be doing some finish work and repairs to drains we built on Upper Table, but most will be heading down to Lower Table to address areas that have been neglected for years. This is a very steep, narrow trail that is in jeopardy of become impassible in the Spring if we don't take some preventative steps now.

On both days we are meeting at 8:30 to begin work at 9:00. We will be wrapping things up around 1:00 or so, depending on weather and group enthusiasm. Bring long sleeves and pants, a snack and water you can carry on the trail, and your hiking boots. We will be hiking in to both project sites on both days.
