Four Really Cool Things

(Mailing List Information, including unsubscription instructions are
located at the end of this message)

Riders

I have four things to announce this week that all make me smile. First, the Wednesday ride continues, and is now supplemented with the Slow Ride. Second, last Monday's Demo in the Demo was a huge hit with 16 riders fanning out on the trails, most on new Maverick bikes. Also, the Mere Mortals have announced a date and venue for the Bra Ride. Last, the snow is melting up on Packer Saddle, and we are making plans to head back up to Downieville.

The Wednesday Ride

This Wednesday we will again be hosting the Usual Ride from Passion starting at 6:00 and heading up into Waterdog Lake Park. This ride has been growing increasingly popular, with as many as 25 riders, and has also been growing faster in pace. For those reasons we are attempting to split the ride, with Berry leading the Usual at 6:00, and now with Julie leading the Slow Ride at 6:30, for those who are non competitive and prefer a more leisurely pace. The Slow Ride will be shorter in distance, and both rides will be timed to return riders to Passion around sunset. The pace on the Slow Ride will be strictly enforced, the route will remain known only to Julie, and if you are the first one to the top of the every hill on that ride, you will be asked to join the Usual next week :-) We at Passion would like these rides to be social, a chance to meet new trail buddies & enjoy the local single track. The testosterone on recent Usual rides has approached toxic levels & we want to throttle back. Berry will be using subterfuge and other forms of info management to keep the jack rabbits within the herd. Darwinian rules will apply for those who go off the front. We will all regroup at Passion afterwards for the usual social lubricants.

Last Monday's Demo in the Demo

We met Ariel and Abby from Maverick at the Demo a couple Mondays ago, as they were on their way home from the Sea Otter, and set up an informal demo ride. 7 of us borrowed new Maverick Durance's, ML-8's and Matic's, Ariel and Abby rode thier race bikes, and the rest of did the ride on our old familiars. Sterling led a short ride version down Braille, and Dane led the big ride, down Saw Pit, up Tractor, and down Braille. Most of us did the in-between thing, dropping Corral, climbing Sulphur, and then following the herd down Braille. The the weather pattern we have had this year, with small amounts of rain followed by days of dry, that trail is just irresistible. Rehydration and lie telling ensued in the parking lot until we ran out of light and then we moved on.

Date: Saturday, June 2nd, 2007
Location: Skyline Ridge parking area, Skyline Ridge OSP

Why limit the fun for the folks in Arizona? This was the perfect activity to bring to the Bay Area for Mere Mortals Mountain Biking. Participants are encouraged to raise at least $75 for the Children's Hospital of Oakland. Our goal is $3,000, and we'll be giving out prizes by our sponsors. http://www.braride.org/

Downieville July 2007

Back due to popular demand & rider enjoyment is the now annual Passion Trail Bikes Downieville weekend. This year we will have the time of our lives July 21-22-23. I've booked rooms at the Riverside Inn, took all they had left at the time. We can accommodate up to 15 riders. If you want to camp or RV it, you are welcome too, just let Berry know so he can make the correct number of shuttle reservations. Preference will be for those who can ride all three days, but we will make every effort to include anyone who wants to join the fun. For now, this is just a head's up so you can hold the space on your dance card. Weddings & business trips are likely to change some of your plans between now & then, so no need to commit just yet. I will post a query for a reservations in late June & will sign you up then. More details at that time. Feel free to contact me via e-mail with any questions.
