(Mailing List Information, including unsubscription instructions are located at the end of this message) This comes from Patty Ciesla of V-O-Cal. She keeps pretty busy creating and maintaining access to trails all over Northern California, and is working in Belmont now: I am trying to find some people to attend V-O-Cal's volunteer trail crew leader trainings this Sunday, and also next week. I'm asking for your help. Could you please forward this to your volunteers, and encourage people to participate? The training is free and the only obligation is that we request people work on at least one of our projects this year. Our training is designed to teach people important leadership skills in working with groups of volunteers, as well as the technical skills needed to build new trails and maintain old ones. If you are hoping to build your volunteer programs, our training can help you educate and grow your volunteers to become leaders. Info on our trainings is available here: http://www.v-o-cal.org/prog/train.html We will be having a project in Martinez on June 2/3, and in Felton on August 12-12 (the hike-horse only River Trail), as well as other places such as Angel Island on July 28-29, Calistoga Oat Hill Mine Trail on Oct 27-28, Sonoma Mountain in late Sept, Oakland's Joaquin Miller Park Oct 6-7. Our website hasn't been totally updated with all these new dates, but general info about what we do is available here: http://www.v-o-cal.org/index.html Can you please help a bit with recruiting for me to find some folks who might want to be a part of this? Ideally I'd like to find people who might work on the Martinez project or the Felton project. But mostly I'm trying to get enough people in the trainings to have a good group size, which is really important for the training itself. So even if I get people to join the trainings who never do a VOCal project it will allow me to help train other crew leaders who will. My training schedule in May is as below (and our website will be updated in about an hour to reflect this) Sunday, May 20 - Concord REI/ Martinez Crew Leader Orientation: 8 AM - 12 PM Trails 101: 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM * Tuesday, May 22 - Redwood City Crew Leader Orientation: 5 PM - 9 PM Wednesday, May 23 - Concord REI Crew Leader Orientation: 5 PM - 9 PM Thursday, May 24 - Belmont Trails 101: 5PM - 9 PM Friday, May 25 - Martinez Trails 101: 5PM - 9 PM Saturday, May 26 - Concord REI/ Martinez Crew Leader Orientation: 8 AM - 12 PM Trails 101: 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM Patty Ciesla Projects Director Volunteers for Outdoor California 615 Woodside Rd, Suite E Redwood City, California 94061 650-298-9774 office 650-867-4485 cell pciesla@v-o-cal.org http://www.v-o-cal.org
