This week we are enjoying a little quiet time about the shop now and again, and we know it's because many of our customers are readying their homes, or getting ready to visit family, or maybe just sneaking out for a ride. We are too, and it's nice. Berry is in Sedona, and Charles is setting the table at home this year.
Thank you for being a part of our extended shop family, and have a wonderful and warm holiday!
As for the rest of this email, read on for tidbits about Rides, Parties, NO BIKES parks, BIKES OK trails, an Anti-poison oak crusade, Rides, Parties, and Food:

Rides! Marin or Kennedy on Thursday
Since 1975 mountain bikers have done a ride around the Pine Mountain Loop in Marin before Thanksgiving Dinner. The ride is no longer an "organized" ride, and you can ride when and whatever route you like.
Last year Charles rode it on his 1984 Schwinn High Sierra.
A history of the Appetite Seminar ride makes for good reading on Charlie Kelly's website
Alternatively, a much newer tradition has started in the South Bay, with MTBR contributing to the (lack of) organization around the Turkey Ride up Kennedy Trail in Sierra Azul. Info is up on the NorCal Forum
Halloween Party Pictures are up Here are two. More are up on Flickr.
La Honda Creek Master Plan: No Bikes? The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is preparing a master plan for La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. This public land includes both the La Honda Creek section as well as the recently acquired Driscoll Ranch Addition, and covers NINE square miles of breathtaking terrain south of Sky Londa and Alices’ Restaurant at the intersection of Hwys 84 and 35. This is more than TWICE the size of El Corte de Madera Creek OSP (Skeggs).
“Please attend an upcoming open house public meeting for La Honda Creek open space preserve scheduled for Dec 4th, 4-7pm @ The Mountain Terrace. Located across Skyline blvd from Alice’s Resturaunt at 17285 Skyline blvd, 94062
Presently the “plan” has ZERO access for bicycles on this 5,759 acre preserve, with a very open ended “once a safe through trail connection is secured” statment suggesting bike access on the Ridge Trail alignment might someday be allowed. No acess within Driscoll Ranch, even though this has been an historically shared use area popular with the pedaling residents of La Honda.
Midpen is promoting this acreage as “the Gateway to the San Mateo Coastal area.” Looks like the gate’s closed as far as cyclists are concerned.”
Mission Peak's Panorama Trail: Multi-use at last? Raphael Breines, Senior Park Planner with the East Bay Regional Park District writes on the BTCEB list:
Dear Trail Enthusiasts,
Next Monday, November 26, the Park Advisory Committee will consider use change of the narrow section of the Panorama Trail in Mission Peak Regional Preserve. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM and will be held in the Board Room of the EBRPD administrative office in Oakland. The agenda should soon be posted on the Park District Web site at: http://www.ebparks.org/about/meetings
The public comment period to consider allowing bicycles on the narrow portion of the Panorama Trail has ended. I received one written comment and one oral comment. Nobody attended the October 25 public input meeting on this request. In addition to the PAC meeting there will be two public meetings to consider the use change request: the Board Operations Committee and the full Board. These meetings will take place in early 2008. I will keep you informed when the item will be considered.

ROMP Holiday Party Plates still available Meet Joe Breeze – designer of the world’s first mountain bike -- & join us for our annual ROMP holiday festivities on Friday night, November 30th, for a fun & entertaining evening.
Many attendees bring their spouse, partner, cycling friends, dad, mom & children to this annual Mountain Bikers Party. Non ROMP members & folks new to cycling are highly encouraged to join us!
For the highlight of the evening: Joe Breeze, producer of Breezer transportation bikes, will give an illustrated presentation entitled, “What’s So Great About Bikes?”, spanning the history and future of what he calls “the most efficient tool of transport ever devised.” No doubt, Joe will include many first-hand accounts of being a nationally ranked Category 1 road racer, a pioneer of mountain biking (he built the first modern mountain bikes in 1977), and an advocate for everyday riding as tonic for great living. Joe was recently named among the top 25 most influential people in American bicycle history, and is featured in the recently released film “Klunkerz” about the birth of mountain biking. Click below for more details.
The ROMP Holiday Party is hosted by ROMP's directors, and is on Friday night, November 30th, 2007 starting at 6:00pm in the banquet room at Michael's Restaurant at 2960 North Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View. Cost is $25 per person & $20 for 12 yrs or under. The cost covers appetizers & a full dinner buffet. A cash bar will be open. Past years’ party attire has ranged from jeans to the holiday finest. To attend, RSVP by completing the form at www.romp.org, and pay for your meal by check or paypal (instructions on the ROMP webpage).
We are delighted to have Joe. His show gets rolling around 8:30pm. Anyone can learn more about Joe Breeze at the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame (he's a 1988 charter inductee), or hear him speak at our annual ROMP holiday party! For more information about Joe Breeze check out his website BreezerBikes.com You can also visit the Klunkerz website for info on his starring role in this great documentary of the history of mountain biking.
IMBA Trail Care Crew & free food at Alice's The International Mountain Bicycling Association is coming to California Nov. 30 - Dec. 1. Ryan Schutz and Kristin Butcher of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will be in Mountain View for a Club Care weekend. The Crew will be working with the Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers (ROMP) to increase their club's capacity, find creative solutions to problems, achieve their goals and (of course) have fun!
During Club Care weekends, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew shares techniques that advocacy organizations across the country have used to reach goals, overcome challenges and grow the mountain bike community. We want to help you take your club to the next level.
Everyone is invited, whether you are a veteran IMBA member or a beginner rider. There is something for everyone at an IMBA event, so come on out for a great time. If this event is too far away for you to attend, we understand. We sent you this email to not just invite you but also let you know about the important work IMBA is doing in your area.
On Saturday, come out after ROMP's Holiday Party for an all inclusive, no drop group ride, beers, food and an IMBA Club Care presentation
9:30 AM: Meet at Gate CM03 at El Corte De Madera OSP 10:00 AM: No drop group ride rolls. Rain cancels.
