1. Please sign the SF Bike Park petition A BIKE PARK IN SAN FRANCISCO? The San Francisco Bay Area was the birthplace of mountain biking. With the closure of many trails throughout the Bay Area, San Francisco has the ability to create a unique facility in one of its park's green spaces.
Many cities have seen the need for more outdoor activities and have addressed them with a controlled, environmentally conscious bike park. New York's, Central Park, Seattle's Colonnade and Woodland Park jumps, Pleasanton's BMX Park, and Cupertino's Calabazas bike park to name a few. A bike park would contain features such as dirt jumps and built obstacles for all skill levels. More information is available at www.sfdirtlab.com/bikeparks
Sign the petition here to support a Bike Park for San Francisco! http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/sfdirtlab?e
By signing this petition, you would support the development of a public bike skills park in San Francisco. It's free and takes less than a minute of your time.
Thanks! Mitch Monroe SF DIRTLAB mitch@sfdirtlab.com
2. Trailwork 2/2 and 2/9, help needed
We need help winterizing our trails! Heavy winds and rains have left their mark on some of our favorite singletrack. Please consider volunteering at least once each winter to work on the trails and give your upper body some needed cross-training. On Saturday 2/2 we will be out looking for our shadow in Waterdog, pruning back brush and upgrading drainage.
On Saturday 2/9 we will be in Soquel Forest, running the chainsaw to clear blowdowns, flicking derailer eating sticks, and clearing silt out of drains. On Sunday 2/10 we will be back at Waterdog.
Please pick a date and sign up at Trailworkers.com so we can get an idea of how many volunteers to expect. We will bring tools, snacks and leadership, you bring your muscles.
3. Strong Beer Month events: Movies @ Passion on 2/8 & Slide Show on 2/15 We've been enjoying Devil's Canyon Brewery's Scotch Ale for so long, we almost (hic) forgot how strong (hic) it is. This month, we are encouraging our customers to come down and have a taste after work on Friday nights. We will even provide entertainment!
For 2/8 we will have a movie night where we sample something from the stack of DVDs we have growing here, and on 2/15, John Gray will be presenting a slide show of his little hike up to the top of Mount Everest with his friend Apa Sherpa. Don't miss these super fun evenings hanging out with your mountain biking friends!

5. NorCal High School Mountain Bike League donations We are pleased to announce that we are serving as a donation point for your old bike gear to the NorCal High School Mountain Bike League. Clear out the closet and the garage and get a nice tax deduction while you are at it. Your used stuff can live out its natural life helping high school kids who are getting their exercise on mountain bikes. Currently there is a need for size 10 to 12 mtb shoes. Call Patty with questions, at 650-620-9798, or just bring your clean, used (and still usable) stuff down to the shop.
6. We are hiring! We are still accepting applications for two positions here at the shop.
